For this project, I chose several different wood species all with different hues and grain patterns. The strips were all cut and assembled using the end grain for structural stability often found in this kind of project. With space in an RV at a premium, the customer wanted a way to cover the sink to provide more counter space while being able to remove the cover for sink use. This also provided a handy movable cutting board that could be used during cooking preparation. Being that it was going to spend its life traveling down the highway, we recessed the bottom, allowing it to nest securely during travel. This is also a great representation of double sided machining where the operator has to machine both the top and bottom surfaces while keeping the orientation of the project correct.
