Sill Timber Mantel With Very Strong Character

I mentioned that I like sill beams mantels, didn't I? Many people are inclined to throw out these 1/2 rotten timbers. When I see them, all I can see is potential.

The sill timber sits on top of the stone foundation and underneath the walls. Around here, more often than not, these beams tend to be white oak. White oak has natural rot resistance, but is not rot-proof. Over the decades, good portions of the beam have become rotten; however, we worked the beam up to the point that only solid material remains. What we get is great natural color and character.

This beam is from a 19-teens barn near Waconia, Minnesota. The old barn was about 2 or 3 miles from Swedish immigrant, Andrew Peterson, Farm. The Andrew Peterson farm became famous, particularly in Sweden, after the meticulous journals he kept became the basis for Vilhelm Moberg's Emigrants book series.

We will cut this one down and reduce the price by $8.33 per in up to a $100 discount.
