"Slip" Console Table

Designed for a small New England Cottage under renovation, this console table serves three spatial programs simultaneously. Set at counter height, it extends the working surface area of the small kitchen into the living area, allowing a program slip that creates continuity between the two spaces. The cantilevered middle shelf allows the side table to hover, creating unobstructed space for shoes and boots beside a heavily used side entrance.

Beautiful naturally patinated barnwood is the feature surface while the crisp ash in the middle height surface sets a contrast that becomes an analogy of the slip between spaces. Steel provides the structure for long open spans and the cantilevered side table. A light natural finish allows the textures and colors of each material to remain true to character.
