Stained Glass Name Plate
I created this stained glass name plate for a customer whose granddaughter was celebrating her first birthday. The family is Irish so she wanted some Irish imagery but preferred more feminine colors. She wanted a simple font and some variety in the background which consists of lightly textured clear glass. She wanted the piece to have traditional feeling and be light and cheerful for a young girl. The squares in the corner are beveled so they will catch the light that comes in and create little rainbows.
The piece is constructed in the Tiffany Style and has small hooks for hanging on a wall or in a window. Traditionally, the lead lines in a stained glass window are finished with a black patina but the customer felt this was too heavy and masculine. Instead she wanted the lines to remain a highly polished silver which feels lighter and more modern.
