This stained glass sidelight has a real Hawaiian vibe. This was a birthday gift for the client's husband. She wanted a Hawaiian green sea turtle as the focal point as this image is part of the logo her husband uses on his business card. The colors of her decor are all shades of aqua with the chocolate brown of the wood floor and other wood elements providing the contrast.
The spiral of ocean currents to gives the design movement by working on the diagonal, despite the sidelight being tall and narrow. The flow of the lines seems to be lifting the sea turtle up with the current. I included just about every shade of aqua I could get my hands on bringing in sea green and true blue at the two ends of the spectrum. Using a variety of textures also added to the palette. I also included three areas of hand raked glass to add to the sense of movement and to give the panel a truly unique look. I used transparent glass for the ocean except for the back ground areas which are a wispy aqua and white. The transparent glass reinforces the sense of weight that the opaque glass gives to the swimming turtle.
