My client had recently bought a house and wanted to surprise her fiance this christmas with a new desk.
This desk is a take on the Parson's table design. But where the tables intersect the top I used a three-way miter. This joint allows for smooth transition of the wood grain and is stronger because the three joints have interlocking mortises and tenons in the joints. (You see this joint mostly in chinese furniture).
The desk is made out of Sipo Mahogany with leather inset top.
The drawers are made with hand cut dovetails using quarter sawn oak. The drawers do NOT use the standard metal cabinet glides. I find the wood on wood drawers feel and sound better when opening and closing.
