This entryway, hall or sofa table is not an "arabesque" in the sense of a serpentine line or repeated linear motif (though the grain of the Wenge does swirl and zigzag throughout). It is "arabesque" in its sinuousness and evocative imagery. Nearly every line is curved or ends in a curve. The ends of the cogged lap joints attaching the modified aprons and lower stretcher to the leg assemblies evoke the face of a feline. So too the stretcher between the pairs of legs suggests a pair of serpents holding the small display shelf. The Bloodwood of the top, drawer front, and display shelf has an unusual striated pattern of metallic gold, copper and deep red reminiscent of sunset on a beach. The drawer pull of Yellow Heart might be a shell reflecting the golden light. At least in my mind . . .
