Upcycled Blanket Chest
In keeping with our shop's philosophy that just because a piece of wood started life as part of a wooden pallet doesn't mean that it has to stay that way, we created this chest.
The chest is a simple Shaker style, made from European pine recycled from German shipping crates. It has a completely hand dovetailed carcass and base. The base is reinforced with upcycled hardwood and secured to the chest with screws. The chest is lined with aromatic cedar. We've given it solid brass hinges and lid supports. It has a medium brown stain, a seven layer hand applied and hand rubbed finish, and a Butcher's wax top coat. The chest's exterior dimensions are 21" high x 36" wide x 20" deep. Interior dimensions are 18" high x 34" wide x 18 deep. We can stain it a different shade for a slight additional cost.
It makes a great safe storage spot for seasonal clothing or as a gift for an engaged couple as a hope chest.
