Wenge is a bit like a James Bond girl: exotic, beautiful...and deadly. Several dozen splinters peppered my hands while making this piece, but it's hard to find fault with the result. The lighter stripes in the wenge echo the rich browns of the figured walnut top when seen from very close, and blend with the black stripes to make a dark chocolate brown from further away.
Built with the usual strong mortise and tenon and hand cut dovetail joinery. The drawer sides provide a pleasant surprise in English brown oak rather than the expected maple.
