ZEN RED BAMBOO

AN ABSTRACT SCULPTURE EVOKING THE SIMPLE GEOMETRY,
IN A ZEN AESTHETIC, OF A STAND OF BAMBOO

Zen Red Bamboo is fabricated from hand-welded
solid steel round bars placed on a structural steel plate.
The base and stalks are powder-coated in Lollypop Red
with an undercoat of Shredded Silver to lend fine
spark-like texture. The sculpture has a triple coat of the red
to present a rich, deep color.

The composition is a stylized representation of a
free-growing bamboo bush. It's airy, elegant austerity and
whimsical asymmetry are balanced by a pleasing solidness,
all idioms of zen in nature. It's topmost stem reaches out to the light
in a form that borrows from a Shinto Gate
