Custom Family Crest Silver Medallion with inscription on the Back. Pendant in Sterling Silver with Sterling Rope Chain. Approx. 1.3/8" (3.5 cm) long
Some gifts need to be extra special. There is a significant life event, such as marriage, graduation, or an anniversary coming up. Nothing off the shelf will ever be special enough. So bring me your ideas and we will create a piece of jewelry that is more than just metal, it is emotion and regard cast into solid form.
This medallion was custom made to incorporate the recipient's family crest. In addition, her name and birth date are imprinted on the back.
In this process, I start with the customer's design, be it a logo, crest, or personal symbol, and create a line drawing entirely in black and white. In this instance I was given a sketch of the components for the family crest, and hand drew a new design that would be suitable for my process. I then use that art to make a stamp from a polymer compound. The stamp is used to create a bas-relief image in silver metal clay, which is fired in a high temp kiln to become an object of SOLID silver as the metal particles fuse.
The cost varies, but the double sided medallion 1 3/8" (3.2 cm) medallion shown here costs in the 325 to 400 dollar range .(I made separate artwork and stamps for each side, then laminated them together.) Medallions like this generally range in size from about an inch in diameter up to an inch and a half.
This pendant is shown with a 24" 3mm Sterling Silver Rope chain which I have 'antiqued' to match the finish on the medallion. Adding a chain runs from about 50 to 125 dollars, depending on the weight and length. I can also provide a black satin cord with a sterling clasp at no extra, if you prefer.
More than one medallion can be made from the same stamp, in either bronze or silver. Additional pieces would cost less, because the stamp is being reused.
I can also create cufflinks using this method. The cost for a pair of silver cufflinks would run from 240.00 to 270.00 depending on the design and complexity of the artwork.
The same process can be used to make keychains, earrings, or commemorative medallions, in either silver or bronze.
Perfect for weddings or family reunions, or as a truly spectacular gift when only something precious, personal, and original will do.
