Using the technique cloisonne enamel makes the koi fish portion of this pendant. It entails carefully bending pure silver ribbons of wire and fusing them to a pure silver surface with clear enamel. The following layers of enamel are colored and can take up to 30 firings in a kiln. After all the firings are complete the enamel fish get sanded down so the wires are flush to the glass. The next step is the fish gets sanded to a high polish, which gives a gorgeous effect of depth and translucency to the glass enamel. After that it is bezel set in a carefully handcrafted sterling silver and 18 karat gold setting with an opal . The technique is quite labor intensive but the results are a magical beautiful piece of finely handcrafted jewelry. The pendant measures 2.5"L x 1.25"W and comes with a sterling silver snake chain measuring 16" or 18". Please specify chain length with your order.
