I was inspired by this chunky strand of rainbow fluorite to design its clasp. These 25mmx35mm rocks make such a statement themselves; I took it as a challenge to make a clasp that related to them aesthetically and had a strong enough presence not to be overshadowed by them.
I formed the walls of the clasp on stakes and anvils, adjusting them until they fit together perfectly, and soldered them in place. I attached beefy silver links and strung the weighty strand on the strongest beading cable available, made of titanium.
The clasp operation is simple and very secure. One end of the necklace ends in a small peg, topped with bead of silver. The clasp has hole on its back and a slot that works its way over to the back edge, around the corner, and up the sidewall, ending at the top left corner. The bead and peg are pushed into the hole on the back and slid along the slot until reaching the end, where everything hangs in place.
This necklace looks great worn with the clasp in front, in back, or off to the side.
