Jewelry Box

I am making five of these. They are lift lid, and all handcut dovetailed. Unique to these special pieces is the process I use to 'unfold' the wood. The sides of each box were the 'bottom' of the wood. Carefully slicing the bottom off allowed me to used those pieces as the sides. If you look closely you will see that the perpendicular stripping of the curly maple follows off the top and down the sides. The handle is laminated maple and walnut bent over a form. The inside is open and covered with black felt.

An antique maple dye is used to highlight the stripping and the finish is oil with 10 or more coats of shellac.

The owners will have a treasure for several generations.

Dimensions: approx 10 3/5 x 6 x 2 in deep.
